DEAR KERYGMA

ADVICE to Miss Confused

Dear Miss Confused,

Greetings in Jesus!

Thank you so much for your trust and confidence in us. Concerning your questions, do you know that we have some things in common? Let me answer them by sharing with you some of my experiences.

Although I finished school, had a good job, and a boyfriend, I was still empty. I prayed to God for guidance and enlightenment.

One day, I was led to attend a Search-In through an invitation posted at a church door. As I was there, I surrendered everything to God. After six months of discernment and after having complied with all the requirements, my vocation directress shared with me that I wasn't for religious life. But life must go on. God must have other plans for me. He led me to a community where my love for Him grew even more. Until I worked full time for Him.

Working in the Lord's vineyard is not a bed of roses. I encountered a lot of difficulties (fear, anxieties, disillusionment, frustrations, etc.) - with members and with community itself. And this is where your commitment and loyalty will count. No matter what, I stayed focused on the Lord. I did my part and He took care of the rest. I allowed HIM to do it His way and not my way.

When I got married and had my third child, I felt it was time to assume a greater role. Now, I am a full-time mother to my three young, cute and lovable boys and a wife to a dear, caring husband. Needless to say, it still isn't a bed of roses. And again I say, stay focused on the Lord.

God has a wonderful plan for you, for all of us. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart" [Jeremiah 29: 9-11 (11-13)].

Pray for God's will. Seek counseling and discern how you can best serve the Lord (Religious, Married, or Single blessedness). And no matter what state of life you are in, embrace it, together with all its joys and pains, and be accountable for that decision. No need to fear nor doubt. As long as you do it for His honor and glory, He will surely bless it.

Rejoice in His love and goodness!

MAYETTE SALVEDIA has resigned from her job to take care of her three children; she currently works as part-time tutor.
