CHRIST-opher
"...but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had,
her whole livelihood." - Mark 12: 44
"That boy at bed, five. " The nurse led me along a crowded pediatric
charity ward during one of our pastoral visits.
It's a heartbreaking moment to see parents witness how much their only child
suffers-pale, weak, and bruised. The boy's innocence made him so comely. To everybody's
astonishment, he spoke to me and said, "I want to eat an apple and a piece of chocolate. "
Quite an ardent request from a sick child! I did buy two apples and two Snickers bars for him.
It's sheer delight to see him keenly eating the apples and chocolates with all the mess on his
fingers.
A week after, armed with more apples and chocolates after receiving my allowance
, I went back. But he was gone... nowhere to be found. I was told he died of leukemia that same
day when I left the hospital.
I burst into tears but, in the depth of my heart, I found a touch of joy, for I
knew the Lord has accepted my humble offering. For, indeed, He revealed Himself to me through
the little boy named CHRIST-opher.

REFLECTION:
Christopher
means
Christ-bearer.
Are you a
Christopher?
Lord, teach my
heart to be
generous as You
are, for in true
giving can
I lessen Your
thorns and
my life be
filled with joy.

martyrs,
