   The power of a
Shared Meal
             By Bo Sanchez

"Dinnertime!"

Mom's voice had power. It made the walls shake, the roof rattle, the floor quake, and little boys glued to Six Million Dollar Man on TV (my age is showing here) simply shiver, jump up and run to the dinner table.

In the Sanchez household, dinnertime was sacred. No one misses it. No one is late for it. No one is excused from it. At mealtime, we said Grace, complained about the food, swapped stories, bickered and fumed, played and argued, and begged for allowance increases. (we ate, too, by the way.) Each meal taken together hammered to our skulls the truth that marriage, children, people, individuals, and personal relationships were the most important things in the whole world.

And for that, I will be eternally grateful.

ATTENTION: FAMILIES!
I believe that many families now are missing a great blessing from God when they don't eat together. Or when they eat together, yes, but with the TV set ruling the dining room. Sure, there can be exceptions for not eating together --- like the 7th championship NBA Utah-Bulls game. (You can watch the game together.) Or when your son is cramming for a Physics "if-I-don't-pass-this-test-I repeat-the-whole-year" exam. (Declare a state of emergency.)

But, I believe, the family dinner should be a sacred treasure--to be kept with great pride, guarded with our lives, and fought for by sweat and blood.

But this powered of a shared meal doesn't happen only among families.
